It’s All in the Details: Dries Van Noten Fall ‘10
Thursday, March 4th, 2010I usually go crazy for Dries collections because of his seamless mix of ethnic prints and gorgeous colors. He’s a more-is-more kind of designer, generally, and it’s what he’s built his brand on – quite successfully I might add.
His Fall ‘10 collection was much simpler than those of the past few seasons, and though his prints here were lovely, they weren’t what stood out to me. This collection was all about the individual pieces. Gorgeous cat eye inspired sunglasses effortlessly worn by the models with their just-rolled-out-of-bed tousled hair. Heathered gray sweatshirts were paired with tan or black slouchy trousers, some with zippered calves and topped with the sweetest little jackets. In fact the whole concept behind this collection was how to throw together something chic from what you’ve already got. It was about layering but not overdoing it. More about what shapes mix well instead of what prints. And even though he tipped his hat to the 50s/60s as he usually does, in some of his jackets and his thankfully full-skirted below the knee dresses, this collection felt thoroughly modern. It was a collection of pieces for real people who actually wake up in the morning and get dressed by themselves. SNN – Stylist Not Needed.
Here are a few favorites from the collection. All Photos from www.style.com
